Working With Real Estate Agents

When leasing real estate, you may find it helpful to have a real estate agent assist you.  Real estate agents can provide many useful services and work with you in different ways.  An agent showing you a property can be acting legally as the agent of the Landlord or occasionally some firms allow the same agent or firm to work as the legal agent for both the tenant and the landlord in the same transaction.  We do not ever do that at Block & Associates Realty.  We do not practice Dual Agency with our rental properties.  When you view/tour a Block & Associates rental property, the Block agent will always be acting as agent of the Landlord who has listed the property for rent with us.  We will be helpful to you and assist you, but we are legally acting as agent of the Landlord.  It is important for you to know whether an agent is representing you as your agent, or simply assisting you while acting as an agent of the other party.  See more details in the brochure that is linked below.

This brochure, created by the NC Real Estate Commission, addresses the various types of working relationships that may be available.  It should help you decide which agency relationship to have with a real estate agent.  It will also provide useful information about the various services real estate agents can provide landlord and tenants, and help explain how real estate agents are paid.
